My chosen artefact:

Sexy relaxy mirror chair’'

Sexy-relaxy.jpg Card.jpg

Sexy Relaxy designed by Richard Hutten is Lounge chair inspired on the famous scene with Sharon Stone in Paul Verhoeven's movie Basic Instict. That’s where the name Sexy relaxy comes from. The chair forces u to sit in a different position. The forced position is wide-legged, this makes the chair different. When a male person sits on the chair there is noting wrong. When a female person sits on the chair the position of the person changes in a sexual position.

Prototypes group

'’'PROTOTYPE PAST’'’ <--- Dan Flevin light tubes

Tubes.jpg Buis.jpg

My prototype of the work of Dan Flevin is a plastic tube with a rope inside. My thought of this prototype was that you can set it on fire than it will represent the first light in a futuristic look. So combining history with futurism at the same time in the same object.

'’'PROTOTYPE FUTURE’'’ <--- Dick van Hoff copper tab

Tabjelle.jpg Water.jpg Insta.jpg

My prototype of the work of Dick van Hoff is a futuristic water bag that you can where as a fashion statement but it will also automatically suck up water from the air in your aura. This futuristic remake off a tab in your daily life is a thing that will be in our lives in the future. Maybe faster than you think!

Changing behavior through objects

When I visited museum Boijmans to choose an artefact my focus went to the chairs in the collection, this because I’m fascinated by chairs. Especially the chairs of Richard Hutten where the objects that had my focus for a while. I think this was because of the appearance of the well formed shapes and the remarkable textures he used in his designs.

The artefact I picked out of the collection of the Boijmans museum is the Sexy Relaxy mirror chair by Richard Hutten. The chair forces u to sit in a different position. The forced position is wide-legged, this makes the chair different. When a male person sits on the chair there is noting wrong. When a female person sits on the chair the position of the person changes in a sexual position.

The fact of changing the position is the point that I want to work with. Changing position means changing people behavior. You can suppress this proces by designing the object in a certain way.

What I want to reach with this project is that I gonna pick a daily life object (cutlery) and I try to reach the same as the chair. If I put this in a question the question will be:

What if an object forces you to use it in a certain way that change the users perception and behavior?

Changing an object is changing the use of an object and also the user. So my idea is to make cutlery, change the form, build, amplitude of the object. By doing this the user eats food in a different way. The users perception of eating food with cutlery is also hopefully changing. I’m going to make it harder to cut and prick than with the standart knife and fork we know. Think of a small knife with a big handle that is out of proportion or the opposite.

“the game is the reason for existence”

This is a quote that Richard Hutten says in a short documentaire I watched about him. So what Richard Hutten says is actually think different, play with form, play with materials. Everybody has a child deep inside of them, let it speak.
