NO TAN project
collaboration: Joep Hurkmans

For this project I bought a Philips UVA TAN light in a second hand store with the idea to play with light. I found light very interesting because it works with atmosphere, attention and reaction. In the first state we took everything out to see what's in. And we had the idea to adjust the lights separately. That was not possible because of the ballasts, we then need a ballast for every tl light.

Then we connected it to the Arduino and a sensor so we could play whether it's going on or off. That worked quite nice! After testing and changing some values in the Arduino we figured out that the range of our sensor was too broad. We worked with a better more straight sensor which would switch the light on if you are far away and switch off when you want to tan. So we made a safe tan light, because it will never tan anymore.

What we liked is that the user interact with the light and is not longer thinking about tanning but more how it works and how the distance functions. In the future I am interesting in interacting with light and what that means for us. Amsterdam Light Festival and GLOW Eindhoven were nice links from Shailoh to thinks of.
