Circuit making labs: We had several classes on circuit making and especially soldering. In first class of circuit making, we learned about the bread board and how it can be used to transfer energy from one point to another using resistors.
( picture of breadboard) Soldering is a main technique we need to learn in order to make circuits in class. Dennis presented an example of a circuit which produces sound as you touch the board.

During the session, making the circuit and we needed a lot of assistance from our friend niko and the tutor Dennis. Soldering was really difficult when connecting one point to another and the amount of solder needed is in a very controlled amount. It took us about 5 hours to make the circuit however, the results were decent but the it would make a muffled and static noise in the background of the sounds we made.
we had to make the circuit broad first. we were provided with a print of the circuit and then we bruoght our copper plates to the publication to print it with the MIMAKI MACHINE.

we than brought to the printing station to etch the print into the plate. so the circuit is imprinted into the board.

Below shows our making process and a video recording of our circuit plate. Others made good ones without bringing it to the MIMAKI printer and the acid etching as well. It was also effective.

Final Project
DAY 1
We had a group meeting about this digital craft project. Our initial idea was a drawing machine, however it lacked a conceptual base so we decided to brainstorm about other ideas. As we discussed we reach a consensus to discuss about the data we accept and utilize / and incorporate in our lives. This lead to the topic of cookies, which are conspicuously seen on the web and in many social media platforms and online shopping websites. They appear on cyberspace on our screens and most of the time we “accept “ the cookies to avoid seeing it again. With that action being done, we see many items that we have search in websites we accepted cookies from appear on our Facebook news feed every time. In our discussion, we talked about how in the modern world we have a sense of free will encrypted in our minds and we usually consider our free will taken and influenced by external sources. However that Is not the case, and that the way we respond to our will is from ourselves. Although we conclude that was free will is usually removed by other people, the other people that succesfull remove our free will is ourselves.
Therefore, we developed an experiment on the same day and conducted it on DAY 2 . We want to conduct this experiment to visualize “free will “. We also had some questions for the project development.

How are behaviours manipulated and influences and how does this cause a chain reaction ?

What are the cause and the effects of our actions?
How can we explore this project digitally?

DAY 2

Gathering Data :
Thorugh our dicussions on ways of gathering data, we concluded that we will do a small scale experiment where we wil present three surveys with “I will” and “I won’t” answers so we make the participants comply to a set of rules without knowing.
The set of questions were :
1. Choose to kill the 6 year old Adolph hitler to prevent the holocaust.
2. Choose to sacrifice the 6 year old Adolph hitler to save 6 million jews.
3. Choose to sacrifice the  6 years old Adolph hitler for his possible behaviour in the future.

DAY 3-4

It took over two days to conduct the experiment and about 69 people took part, in according to the results. We hung our posters around the school in second floor blaak and wijnhaven.

( insert picture ) The experiment should demonstrate that people are willing to use their free will but with the options provides the participants are not considering the consequences they impose on the decision they make . The participants were not provided with any information on the questions they were being asked nor did they question why they were being asked this questions:

The experiment identifies and highlights that people have free will with options to restrict however we decide how much we give away by making unconscious decisions.

In conclusion:

Our group recognizes that : We have free will We use and abuse our free will We don’t consider all of our unconscious actions Everyday we commit a series of steps that we don’t recognize that will lead to our actions in our day to day lives.

We live in a world where we have free will however living in world with two different systems that are both physicaly and digital has external sources that influence / manipulate our decisions. Especially the online activity and the functions in cyberspace influences our behavior and so we explore those activities in our project later. We embark to explore and observe people’s online activity and how free will takes part in it. We discussed that the amount of data we give away and receive is very dangerous.

Day 5

Making the product

We live in a world where we have free will however living in world with two different systems that are both physically and digital has external sources that influence / manipulate our decisions. Especially the online activity and the functions in cyberspace influences our behavior and so we explore those activities in our project later. We embark to explore and observe people’s online activity and how free will takes part in it. We discussed that the amount of data we give away and receive is very dangerous.
We decided that in our piece, we want to explore the cause and effect of our reactions through webcam activity. We want to observe people’s behavior in the decision-making process of their free- will through film. We want to demonstrate and present the behavior of the people on the camera to themselves. We decided to use the webcam/ facetime/skype style where people present themselves uncomfortably. We think it would be great for the audience to interact with the piece by seeing the actions they have done from the past few seconds and feel distressed and anxious from the movements they made in the camera. In the construction of the piece, we intended to create a mirror that is constant and is projected through the beamer. This helps the participants to be trapped in the moment and experience their actions / behaviours over and over again.
We were recommended to use webcam, which is a simple method of displaying unconscious reactions.

In order to create delays from the webcam onto two different screens, we had to program and tweak with the computer system in a platform called MAX. MAX is a drag and drop operating system that is simpler method to coding.

We made several tests in publication station.
we received reactions where people were confused about the installation and some also took pictures of the piece.

END RESULTS!
The whole installation ended and performed really well. Next off is assesment!
