WHAT'S MY CRAFT

As a graphic designer, you design and create for communication. But in the traditional sense, you do it for clients and it's either in the form of print or a screen. as a creative, I always wanted to dabble my feed in other media like film or the physical world. At this point in time, I feel the traditional way of graphic design is very limiting. There are many more senses the human species can use to get communicated to that don't get to be used if you just stick to print and/or screen, for example, touch, smell or taste. I work to discover and learn new ways of expressing and communicating my ideas in other materials of mediums. So in the future, I have even more freedom to think outside the box. Though limiting, being a graphic designer does give me the advantage that I already have a clear understanding of what to do to have something communicate ideas, principles, and feelings.

As a craftsman, I'm a conceptual creator. I find a story, a metaphor or a happening and create a project around that. I'm trying to loosen up and start my experimenting process at a much earlier stage to get even better results. But In all of the work, I have done the human has been at the center of it. Humans are very complicated creatures and how they interact with each other, the physical world or the digital world creates a lot of interesting opportunities to discover, highlight or enhance these different corks and characteristics that we possess. Doing this, I hope to bring more awareness to how humans interact. This can be taken into consideration when developing new products or technologies. Or if newer technologies get produced I can take them and let people reflect on the situation either positive or negative to create a better understanding of what really makes people tick in the progression and development that we experience.

an example of work that I have made the relates to the theme is Heartfelt. This project explores new ways of connecting people on a more intimate level. A wearable piece makes it possible to record and broadcast heartbeats. The idea is That you give it to loved ones so they can transmit their recordings and give you the opportunity to listen to their heart for different reasons. For example, if you miss someone or if it just relaxes you if you listen to your loved one's heartbeat or even if you want to know if they are alive. [1]

The Theme I want to explore in the upcoming quarter (Q14) is "How do I use the digital (interactions) to influence human interaction/behavior". an example of something that I am fascinated by is, the amount of time people spend creating en curating their Instagram. they do this to attract attention and get followers. There is a big community that considers themselves influencers just because they have a certain amount of followers. they see it as a profession, and in a way it also is. Because companies Do sponsor them or give them money for promotion. Dus giving the Instagram accounts value. So what would happen if we created a stock market for the Instagram account? How would it change the way Companies, Influencers and individuals perceive others and themselves?
