The reason I chose this piece specifically is that it really stood out to me, it caught my eye. I believe this is partly because of the woman in the middle of the piece, she represents ‘the truth’ and she is the centre of attention. She really stands out. I thought digital drawing to be a kind of modern-day etching, it’s a drawing technique that makes mass-producing drawings more accessible.

I started my digital craft project by copying my chosen artefact: Murio la Verdad. My chosen piece is part of an 82-part series of etchings. The reason I chose this piece specifically is that it really stood out to me, it caught my eye. I believe this is partly because of the woman in the middle of the piece, she represents ‘the truth’ and she is the centre of attention. She really stands out. The piece is from 1864 when etching was a new method that made mass-producing drawings much more accessible. I used this in choosing my own technique: digital drawing. I thought digital drawing to be a kind of modern-day etching, it’s a drawing technique that makes mass-producing drawings more accessible.

After creating this first copy I started on my transformation. Because the original artefact is an etching, it is not coloured. This lack of colour is something I wanted to explore. This interest led to three different series of images: the skin, the palettes and the colours. These are all series that give different perceptions and feels to the image I started with.

I also explored ‘the people’ in the image, this lead to another series. In ‘The People’ I removed different characters from the original images to change the look and feel of the overall picture. By removing the focus-point, I changed the image completely.
