Hello,
My name is Aileen Melief. I'm a first year illustration student and I'm taking the elective Mimicking machines by Jesse Howard. Jesse told us we are going to build our own pen plotter and our final result will be a demonstration of what we made with the pen plotter.
Lesson 1: Jesse told us what the content was of this elective. He also told us that we wouldn't alter the machine, but the codes so we could use the plotter in our favor. He quickly showed us how to make a 3D print. Luckily we just had to download a file and upload it into the printer, but you can also make a model yourself.
Lesson 2: Kiara, Ervin and I went to the digital lab to pick up our 3D printed models. We printed the base that is adjusted to the metal bars. This lesson we split up in groups. A few of our class made the metal bars and we put the machine together.
Lesson 3: Jesse had finished the 2 machines and told us we should think of what we wanted to make with the machine so we could split up in groups. Kiara, Caroline, Ervin and I decided that we would make 1 collaboration drawing with the illustration students. We also decided that we wanted to do it with paint. This lesson we got the opportunity to try out the machine. So we made 5 drawings of cats with the machine :)
Lesson 4: Jesse taught us how to adjust the code and how to use the pen plotter. We also began with sketching our drawings.
Lesson 5: This lesson was in the animation inbreiding because the interactive station was closed. This lesson I decided that I wanted to go solo, there were too many people for a drawing on A4. I wanted to make my drawing with fineliner, this means i don't have to change anything in the code. But is does mean I need to make my drawing as smooth as possible to avoid errors.
