On the Body
Description
As an introductory assignment I paired with the "I agree" project. 'I agree' is an interactive project where you are lured by a welcoming voice to stand in front in the spotlight and to accept the values and terms by pressing a button. What happens is that a picture is being taken from you by a hidden webcam. In the next room you see something happening, many pixels come together and there it is: a picture of you, but not only there. The picture has been sent to several computers throughout the room. My contribution was to textualize the concept and the voiceover.
Concept
We live in a digital era in which it is nearly impossible to stay anonymous. The digital world contains so many recources that are directly available. Especially the fact that the accessibility takes so little time is quite convenient. When a service has a large amount of users, it creates a feeling that the service can be used safely, and makes an individual blindly trust it.
The desire to use a popular service as fast as possible in today’s time spirit, results in skipping to read the services’ terms and conditions. Besides, what harm can pressing ‘I agree’ actually cause? Somewhere in these conditions you will be protected, one would think. Somewhere in the back of your mind you know a few negative scenarios that have happened to a few unknown people. But in comparison to the fact that so many people use these services it would never happen to you. But should you really expose so much of your body, your identity, your brains, to the eyes of the whole world? The digital network and the amount of (personal) data is growing to extends we can not even imagine. And because of this unimaginable factor the awareness of our digital footprint we leave behind for eternity fades away.

Have you read the terms of use? No. Have you accepted them? Yes. You probably have never thought about the possible consequences of signing a contract which you have not read. Although millions of people do it everyday, by pressing ‘I Agree’ at the end of every pop up screen of terms of and conditions you come across. Thank you for letting us confiscate your personal freedom. By blindly accepting the terms and conditions, you have officially lost control over your rights regarding the service you are using. From this moment, your personal data are now under copyright of I agree, or any other service you agreed to use. Congratulations, you have now exposed yourself to the whole world (wide web) to see. Your identity is now forever stored on the web. Your online ID will forever be accessible for the eyes of everyone.

Final video
For the final video we filmed a sequence, a series of poses, and again edited them in after effects.
To alienate this video even more, we turned the video in black & white, and inverted the colors.
The sounds were recorded in logic x pro to put emphasis on the inhumanity of the movements.

Mind (of) the Machine
For this project I gathered 100 images of monsters. .....................
A very common phenomenon of the human brain occurred when I was looking at the result of the algorithm: Pareidolia.
Pareidolia is a psychological phenomenon where the brain responds to an image or a sound, creating a familiar image or pattern while there is not one present in the stimulus.
Although the mind of the machine and that of a human are very similar in a kind of approach, this phenomenon is not (yet) to be learned by machines yet and also is very personal.
I thought it was a very interesting process; that a computer altered these data to an unrecognizable pattern, and my human mind created new distinguishable images all over.
So I cut out a few of the occurring images, printed them and drew my pareidolia over them. Here are a few examples below:
Edit: I have not yet managed to bind these images altogether in a booklet, because I rather add more images and finish this process than wrap it up quickly for the deadline.
The Face of Things
How can objects control our appearances? When a person hears a cry, they will respond with a speci c expression. We have designed objects that attempt to dictate a one’s response and consequently the appearance. How willing are we to adapt to these rules when designers exploit familiarity and intimacy as a form of manipulation.
