Driving Questions:
These were the main driving questions we asked ourselves during group discussions. They shaped the way for our final product and make for a good reflection of the process.
- What kind of senses/inputs are missing from the standard ways of digital communication?
- How do we accurately communicate intentions in digital form? Is there a way in which we can playfully approach the miscommunications that take place via texting, email, etc?
- Is there room for interpretation in the way we communicate?
- What does movement tell us about emotions?
First Concept Statement
We’re going to connect people through presence of movement, which will trigger an emotional response from the users.
We’re going to do this by sensing amplitude of movement, through acceleration, and then translating this data into a colour. This will result in a colour which is more bright and vibrant according to the intensity of the movement. Thus we can translate a suggested meaning to a colour. Ex: more bright = more nervous, energetic. more dim/pastel colour = chill, tranquil. This is of course open to interpretation.
The device itself is a wearable, and its applications exist in two scenarios.
The Double User Experience
This is a scenario where the device connects two people whose displays show the movement of one another.
The Many Users Experience
This is our 'what if we had more time' scenario. In a multi-user scenario, a specific group of people would have the device and their movements would be registered during a set time or task. The output of this data would be converted into some sort of data visualisation where one could observe the behaviour of the whole group and draw conclusions.
How to understand protocols
Specific question : Hand up -> Helper will connect
General question : Just ask
Engineering - art -> SImilar in the way that you want to create something that does not exist.
When a protocol/language is based it only works if it reaches the end the way you want it to happen.
Communication: Transmitter (Translate)-> Medium ->(Translate) Recipient
Is a recipient needed?
is a transmitter always known? (leaving tracers)
Communication has to be learned how to interpret.
Context sensitive
Context given -> associating Manipulation
The more dimensions, the harder it is to fake More "datapoints"to tell its honesty.
What makes digital interaction so difficult?
The less info you can send the longer it takes to transmit your message
____________ Greeting:
Trust : You wouldnt allow someone to come close to your body if you wouldnt trust the other person.
Digital communicationm is often permanent
What is lost in digital communication?
Variational antiencoders

If the bandwidth is narrow, data has to go slower. Thus collecting small data over time says more than big data in short time.
Interpretation vs Translation
Rik: Gathering
Rodricgo: Interpretate
Jenneannec: Emotion, share love -> Flower
David: Step away from language
Rachel: Expression -> Collect som, eting not able to collect by conventional media
Jinnie: Interpretation
Iren: Smiley, sending emotions
Marijke: Colors -> are code
What do we want to transmit?
How do we want to transmit?
Collection (gathering of multiple messages) -Interpretation- Emotion/feeling
An Idea: Data is trnaslated to a color (RGB data value) which represenmts that person in that time.
Who does what:
Flowerfield
Jeneanne: Spokesperson -> Poetry Makes poem
Rodrigo: Programming
Jinnie: Visual Rachel: Vidual Product David: Visual
Rik: Physicle
Iren:
Marijke:
Feedback
How does the user feel connected to the output?
What is the input?
Can the output be more than just physical (smell)

Need database (firebase)
