Beyond Social

Description

Beyond Social is an international and collaborative research and publishing platform on social art and design. It can be used by students, teachers and (external) experts to write and research topics that relate to the Social Practice. The publications are developed both digitally and printed. This project is one of the assignment in quarter 7 of the graphic design department. The students will develop solutions/add-ons/changes to the platform from the principle of hybrid publishing. How can the platform for instance be translated to interesting print design and how can this again inform the digital environment? http://beyond-social.org/ http://beyond-social.org/wiki

Quarter 7 Graphic Design

Description

The 2nd year Graphic Design department is focusing on editorial design in quarter 7 in which the relation between analog and digital publishing is a central theme. The developments of this project will be monitored and relevant experiments will be selected and possibly developed further in quarter 8. Several of the teachers/tutors involved in the hybrid publishing platform will help them explore the possibilities of hybrid publishing.

Persons Involved

Andre Castro & Arjen Suiker (Technique), GO afdeling (teachers & students), Kimmy i.s.m. docenten (scout relevante projecten)

Result

Inventory and documentation of interesting experiments, questions or obstacles the students encountered in relation to hybrid publishing. Andre will develop a course which focuses on an introduction into hybrid publishing and which will make students familiar with single source-publishing, conversion (Pandoc) and the importances of structred-text and mark-up languages - the workflows and most important tools involved.

All-in-One Publishing Through CSS

Andre (talk) 10:50, 14 April 2015 (CEST) asks: Isn't this web-to-print? If the purpose is "designing a book without InDesign" CSS might not be enough.

Can BS be used as an example content?

Description

Development of CSS that can be used for publications that are written in a certain standard format. Here not only the development of the CSS itself is important, but also researching to which ends (outputs) this can be used and applied 'automatically'. (Think about designing a book without InDesign). Most likely the publication of re-inventing the art school, 21st century will be used, but it is necessary to see if it is realistic to translate it to a mark-up language within the scope of tis project. The possibilities of this will be researched by Arjen Suijker and Lucia Dossin and will be further developed in the open lesaanbod.

Persons Involved

Arjen Suijker en Lucia Dossin.

Result

A collection (repository) of CSSE that can be used in case a standard format publication is developed. Moreover, researching the possibilities to develop several outputs from html using CSS. At least one publication will be developed in this manner.
