How to prepare your documents for printing
• make a PDF, like PDF/x a:2001
• save as a JPG or TIFF, unaltered
• print from Photoshop, Preview or Acrobat Pro
• when saving as PDF, put compression on 150 dpi
• if Adobe Illustrator files refuse to print, save them as JPG
Best way of printing
All printers need to know:
• what size is the paper you want to print on?
• in what drawer is the paper (for your own paper: multiple purpose tray) check paper source in the print menu.
• should it be a 100% file, or scaled to fit?
• is it single sided or double sided, and is it flipped on the long or short edge? (Finishing)
Now you can use the program you made your file in to print,
or you can use Acrobat Pro of Preview to print.
Most of the time Acrobat or Preview are a lot easier.
On the Canon printer
Log in with your student pass. Always click on Print and Keep.
In that way you won't have to send it again when something goes wrong on that printer.
After midnight your files will be erased.
When using your own paper with the multiple purpose tray, also click on settings on your computer.
Here you will find many types of paper.
For transparant plastic sheets, use clear film!
Only use plastic sheets that are designed for laser printing!
Otherwise you can seriously damage the printer, because it will melt!
When you print on your own paper, first click Print and Keep and wait for the three beeps.
Now the machine asks you to put your paper in the multiple purpose tray.
The printer recognizes the paper type that you filled in on "settings".
Confirm if it is right.
If you forgot to fill in the right paper quality, you can still change it on the printer by clicking on the icon on the lower left.
NOTE: you can not change to CLEAR FILM here! Please send it again with the right settings.
Printing BOOKS
the most important setting and most made mistake for printing books is FLIP ON THE SHORT EDGE.
The default setting will always be Long Edge, so you need to change this.
All books should have the setting Flip on the short edge.
If you print your book as a PDF, keep in mind that Preview and Acrobat do not respect your spine.
There will be a space between the pages, so printing a photo spread will go wrong here.
If you made your book / magazine in InDesign, there is a "print booklet" option.
Check all settings. The preview should be okay. If not, do not print, but check the settings.
Indesign respects the fact that pages should have no space between them. So spreads will have no white space in the middle here.
For a better quality,
you can also use the canon c600i, located in the Print Studio.
There will always be someone to help you. Make your PDF single paged and preferably PDF/x a:2001.
You can airdrop it from your laptop or iPhone. In case of windows, use a USB stick.
- Print vanuit Photoshop, Preview of Acrobat Pro
