This is a mask from Mali.

Mali is known for their traditional mask dances performed by important Dogon rituals connected with the dead.

The usage of masks is as old as mankinds existence.

In countless cultures masks are part of different rituals

By wearing the mask the wearer loses their own person and comes in contact with the spiritual world.

Because the mask is used to loose your own persona I wanted to copy this mask in another material that is see-through.

By doing this I wanted to reveal the mystery behind the mask.

Create a new reality of what could be hiding behind the mask.

After I finished my copy I saw it's shadow appearing behind the mask.

A new mask, could this be the face behind the mask?

I decided to dig a little deeper..

Personality --> Latin =  persona
Meaning: Mask

By wearing the mask the wearer would lose it's own persona,
but it turns out that your persona is the mask you're wearing.

Everybody is born as a blank canvas.
Your personality is created by experiences, memories, culture, surrounding, religion etc.
It is a tool to push your way through the world.
It shapes in the form that is necessary to survive in this existence.
Your personality is the mask you are wearing.
Drop the mask and what remains is.. you.
