About
This course will introduce participants to the tools fundamental for the creation of digital publications, namely HTML (content and structure), CSS (style), Javascript (interaction). For anyone interested in developing digital publications, being them in the form of a website or an ebook (EPUB), this set of tools is a must.
Because no technology exists in the void, the historical context and cultural significance of these tools will constitute important points of reference for the course, with examples of Internet art and other experimental browser-based works, being frequently presented. At each session participants will develop simple prototypes that put into practice the subject presented. And as a long term goal participants will be asked to create an experimental browser-based work, that can be anything but a typical webpage. Possible outcomes might take the form of browser-based generative posters, VJing tools, a sound sampler or synthesizers, animations, to mention just a few examples.
The participation in this course it is important for the following kwartaal' s course dedicate to Hybrid Publishing, where participants will be introduced to methods for creating a publication with multiple outputs.
